Carbyn : Today's Contender!

To all the App & OS Developers.. Carbyn has built a HTML5 OS. HTML5 defines the 5th major revision of the core language of the World Wide Web: the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). In this version, new features are introduced to help Web application authors, new elements are introduced based on research into prevailing authoring practices, and special attention has been given to defining clear conformance criteria for user agents in an effort to improve interoperability.

What's Remarkable in Carbyn?

There’s nothing to install since HTML5 works in the browser. You simply open a browser and log-in to Carbyn and you’re ready to go! Apps can be tailored for Carbyn from the ground up using HTML5 or there’s a wrapper that can be used to make existing apps work. Yes..with the revised SDK, the team can get any app up and running in less than a half hour.

What's So Fashionable and Attractive about it?

It is that there’s much better multi-tasking to their SDK which allows different apps to talk to one another in a way that traditional web apps can’t. Carbyn is meant to run anywhere with a “modern” browser. Presently running on both an iPad and a BlackBerry PlayBook. Soon it will work on smartphones as well!

IntelliVocab GRE Deluxe Cracks into Top 100!

IntelliVocab (formerly PowerVocab) personalizes the English vocabulary learning for competitive exams and personal improvement. This app is built by students of MIT based on the latest research from MIT Computer Science and Web Semantics Lab.  It uses latest machine learning algorithms and web semantic techniques to collapse billions of possibilities into comprehensible probabilistic profile information, in real-time. It completely controls the learning environment, so that you do not have to plan your learning approach. All you need to do is interact. The more you practice, the more it learns about you and figures out words that are diffcult for you. It ensures you achieve the top scores in competitive exams like GRE, GMAT, SAT, or in your professional work.

Those who are facing the GRE, SAT or GMAT know the joy of preparation for these high-stakes tests. A surefire way to improve one’s chances for success is propping up on vocabulary words. For excellent practice, get one of the Free IntelliVocab apps for the iPhone. One version focuses on vocabulary for the GRE and GMAT, while the other is geared toward the SAT. IntelliVocab uses a combination of practice tests, word lists and progress tracking to teach the user new vocabulary words and pace one’s practice until test day. Practice tests present a word (a robotic voice also speaks it) and four definitions. Tap on the answer, which will either then highlight in green if correct or red if wrong.  After several practice tests then it may be time for the full-blown practice test. It is a 30-question test with a five-minute time limit.  For those who would rather focus on the more challenging words, head to the settings menu. Here the word lists for the easiest, medium or hardest words can be turned according to your wish. Have a look to the Screen shots!

To accomplish  the demand for more words, here's the latest version IntelliVocab Deluxe available at the App Store for $0.99 only. It possess more than 4800 wordsLocal Notifications for the words which you did wrong added to the previous features of IntelliVocab. With these two peerless features.. it takes the highly popular IntelliVocab app to the next level.

Additionally, It ranked  #71 on 12th Sept,2011 in Education Category!

Taylor Cavanah: Into A Terrible Fix!

Taylor Cavanah, Locai's Founder got into an awful mess for their newly launched Android App missing in the Android market. Yes.. strange but true!

Locai launched their Android App..but even days later, it was no where to be found in the Android market. What must be the reason? It's none other than the Google's Auto-correct  feature which makes the App to be invisible. Is that really possible for an App to go invisible? Check out! In reality, somewhere on the back end, Google’s Android Market is auto-correcting all searches for “Locai” to “Local” without alerting the user. And guess what.. even I faced the same while searching for Locai's Logo. Here's the Screen Shot!

Even after successful branding and promotion for several months, Locai is losing a ton of users and investment as people though converted to download the app, but can’t find it. Since everyone downloads apps by searching for "Locai" first, this is raising a huge blow to them.

Now that Locai is losing a gallon of users, it is stuck with the decision.. Do they change their name (thereby abandoning whatever progress with the brand they’ve made so far), Or do they just sit back and hope Google is willing to implement a fix like prioritizing exact matches before showing autocorrect results?

Smart Phones : Are they Smart enough?

For a mobile that calls itself a 'Smartphone' the "Auto-Correct function" proved to be the dumbest feature! The predictably ends up interfering in people's messages, changing them to vastly different meanings. This is really hilarious... Just thought I'd share it with those of you who don't know about it. From changing the words 'kissing' to 'killing' or 'cross country' to 'cross dressing' the receiver normally gets a bit of a shock, before a laugh. And the red-faced sender usually has to send a hurried explanation, just in case the receiver gets the wrong idea. Here are the 15 most viewed auto-correct fails sent in to Damn You Autocorrect since the site launch. Since it has been launched back in October, the site has gotten over 300 million page views! That’s crazy!

HTC Potential to Have its Own OS!

HTC has produced devices running a handful of operating systems over the years, from big names like Android to lightweight options like Qualcomm’s BREW. What we’ve never seen though is a device that is HTC through and through and meets HTC OS. Cher Wang has revealed that HTC is considering purchasing their own mobile operating system for use in forthcoming devices. Where from the idea of having OS incepted?

It's precisely because INTERNET GIANT Google bought Motorola. Google's planned buyout of Motorola for $12.5bn was seen by many as a last ditch attempt by Google to get its hands on a patent portfolio that could stand up against its rivals. Google still needs the US Department of Justice to rubber stamp its deal with Motorola but most are expecting that to be just a formality. Though Cher Wang agreed with Moto-Google deal because Motorola has many significant patents but acknowledged that the partnership could easily go beyond that as Google can now consider branding its phones with Motorola's name. Basically, Wang's wordings can be taken as a notification for the Google! Well, it's hard for HTC to ditch Android after the Google deal because the platform is too lucrative.

HTC seems a bit casual about introducing a new operating system to their already-ambitious line up. It’s likely because they realized that no matter what OS they end up purchasing, the end result should be full-featured and recognizable. Since they are able to make things different from their rivals on the second or third layer of a platform, they can use any OS they desire. Whether or not it will be enough to claim any significant market share, but it’ll be a real treat to see them try.

Google: The Big Picture

I couldn't stop myself writing this Blog, after acquiring a catch of Google's Big Picture! Hats Off to Google who stepped ahead of doing something noteworthy. Kudos to Today's Winner!

Fine. Let me come to the genuine point. Then, You can even join me to step forward equally as Google's! We all know about Carbon Footprint. And that how majorly it is responsible for Global Warming. Wittingly how many of us truly care about it and take pain to trim our carbon footprint? Here I am to establish your chore towards the world!

Google - An Internet Search company, have worked hard to minimize the environmental impact of its services. Starting from their Servers to their Foodstuff they are committed to reduce environmental impact. They approach their buildings as living systems, designing in natural light and clean air, designing out harmful man-made chemicals, and using natural resources more intelligently. Their approach goes hand-in-hand with their commitment to designing buildings that are sustainable for local and global ecosystems. The initiatives like using Solar panels on their roofs and Greening their campus eliminate the equivalent of more than 10,000 metric tons of CO2 per year. Getting hard to believe? All right. Then watch this video of Moving sustainably.

In addition to investing in renewable energy for their own operations, they are also investing in renewable power projects to grow the industry as a whole. Specifically, they have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in renewable energy projects such as large-scale wind and rooftop solar. When added up, these projects represent a total capacity of over 1.7 GW, which is far more electricity than they use. To put this in context, this electricity is equivalent to that consumed by more than 350,000 homes. Google uses very little of the world's electricity (less than 0.01%).

Using Gmail is more energy efficient than using email hosted on local servers (such as on a server in your office or room). This is because Gmail is hosted in the cloud, which is large, so it can more efficiently allocate resources among many users. Here's a comparison.

Google products provide over a billion searches every day, mobile mapping for over 200 million smartphone users, and host over 4 million businesses in the cloud. Yet there are so many other things to be hashed out! Stay tuned!

CampTrail App : In The Rejection Pannel

What's CampTrail App?

Got any idea about the CampTrail App from the above Screenshots? Yes, this app is intended for employees to collaborate and do work in enterprises. It allows project management on iPads. It has been developed by FAQDen Labs after an uninterrupted
hardwork for months. But all goes in vain when we talk about the approval from Apple! Why? You will find it soon! Have patience.

What's the "Living Document" made by Apple?

The company(Apple) says that its App Store guide is a “Living Document”. According to this the Apps which appear confusingly similar to an existing Apple product or advertising theme will be rejected. Apps that look similar to apps bundled on the iPhone, including the App Store, iTunes Store, and iBookstore, will be rejected. Apps that create alternate desktop/home screen environments or simulate multi-app widget experiences will be rejected. Apps that alter the functions of standard switches, such as the Volume Up/Down and Ring/Silent switches, will be rejected.

Having read the new rules, I still feel deeply conflicted about the App Store. On one hand, there’s something broken about a process that permits hundreds of fart apps but makes it impossible for the third party developers (like FAQDen Labs) to reach users. The new documentation, while extensive, is still rife with wiggle room: Some developers are going to invest time and resources building apps only to find that Apple won’t approve them. Worse, other developers won’t bother to build cool apps at all yet they’re virtually positive that they won’t be shot down.

But here’s the thing: Apple may be an imperfect steward of its mobile platform, but it’s less imperfect than all its competitors. For all its limitations, the App Store still has by far the best and most innovative smartphone apps. I still believe that the best possible app store would provide third-party developers with far more latitude than Apple’s store does.

I remain a long-term optimist, one who believes that a more open iPhone would be good for both iPhone owners and for Apple, and that Apple will eventually come around to that line of thinking. So when the company says that its App Store guide is a “living document,” I choose to take that as an encouraging sign. Why couldn’t a living document ultimately result in rules that are less restrictive rather than more so?

Android & It's Remarkable Rise!

What makes Android adopted worldwide in apace?

Android developed by Open Handset Alliance led by Google majorly used in Smartphone, Tablet Computer, Net Books, Google TV. The first commercially available phone was HTC Dream, released on 22nd Oct, 2008. Since then, having less than 5% market share in Q4 2009, it rose to 48% of the Smartphone market share by 1st Aug,2011. As per Google's statement, there was 6 billion apps installs from the Android market at the end of June,2011.

What features in Android appeal a galore users?

Android has a Multi-Channel, Multi-Carrier OS, which allows it to duplicate the quick success of Microsoft's Windows Mobile. While most Android applications are written in JAVA, there is no JAVA virtual machine in the platform & JAVA byte code is not executed. Java classes are compiled into Dalvik executables and run on Dalvik, a specialized virtual machine designed specifically for Android. By now Android supports more than 250000 apps worldwide. And now that Android is having the features like Multi-Touch, Multi-Tasking, Tethering, Multiple Human Language Support, Voice actions for Calling, Texting, Navigation, etc. it draws customers to a greater extent.

  OS World Wide Market Share

Unlike iOS which runs exclusively on the iPhone, Android is licensed out to OEMs & is an open source platform. Although iOS & Android remain the two strong OS to look for in future, the OS with the highest install base currently in world is Symbian. Undoubtedly, Android has become a threat to Symbian in the near future. Also, iBall to launch Android phone soon!

Fuel Added to Fire!

I mentioned about the rocking Delhi in my previous Blog. Before the Metro could settle it's hash, an earth tremor shook the capital. And that's What I call adding Fuel to the Fire!

Hope the Heart of our country resumes before it leads to the stage of gush with a new attack. Stay Alert!

Wednesday, 7 September 2011

A powerful attack rocked New Delhi!

Again India got Hunted.. left people in Grief! Who is responsible for this attack? What led him to attack? Was it just an admonish to all of us? All these are baseless queries!!

The contigent is why the hell every time a cold war persist in between India & Pakistan? Despite all our internal security problems for the past 60 years, we still don't have a counterinsurgency policy. Strange but.. True! We do not have an anti-terrorism policy. So anything that is decided is very specific or ad hoc. It's very knee-jerk and it's decided on the spur of the moment to calm down the anger, and then it lapses back into non-implementation mode.

Today's blast marked the 19th terrorist strike in the Indian capital in 15 years. Yet no improvement in internal security. Despite of having reached a Population of 1.21 Billion, out of which half of them are youngsters, it's a shame on the part of India to admit for not having a rigorous security. Neither today's Congress-led government nor its predecessors from the Bharatiya Janata Party have taken effective measures. At the Bottom line, we the citizens of India are responsible! Think on it!

Blogging : The Importance in Life

Everyone in this world have some Goals in their life. To step ahead, you need to be proficient in two skills - To Speak & to Write. These are the most powerful tools for hunting media & expressing yourself. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a swell idea to me

I wonder how often you've felt frustrated with your career or personal life. Even as you enjoy a certain measure of success, we all look around and dream of accomplishing more. We battle that nagging thought that something is holding us back. No matter how good you are or want to be, there's always that lingering doubt that you could do better and it could be easier for you. I would like to dedicate this Blog to those newcomers who love to explore Social Media but are not in a habit of Blogging. I must tell you one thing, Blog anything you like and make a habit of yours. You will find yourself to be surefooted . I never thought of writing such a blog..but here I am. It makes me feel good.

Who said that there is a format for writing a blog, I say..there is nothing such formats for any Writer. They write.. the way they think. As Musicians play with various tunes to make it more worthy, Writers play with words to make it more valuable. You've probably known or heard of people who achieved success almost naturally, People who command respect and whose ideas are always heard, People who communicate with power and precision. Perhaps you've wished you were more like them.  I wonder if you can picture how it would feel to be able to express yourself as well as the most successful people you've known. Imagine discovering that suddenly you command that kind of respect and attention. I wonder how many times you've had a brilliant insight or idea, but been unable to find the words to express it quickly enough. Many people make embarrassing mistakes when searching for just the right words to use. You know that once you do, nothing will be able to stop you.

And learning words is not that difficult now a days. Thanks to FAQDen Labs who have released IntelliVocab Deluxe for us. The easiest app for improving Word Power. The only thing you need to do is interact more and more. For this you just require an iPhone/Android.

Before I end up with this, I would like to say " Never let your Defect to Defeat you, Rather you Defeat your Defect"! And as always- Dare to Dream & Dream to Achieve! That's the only way to success! :)

Smart Phones : Technologies & Market Share

What's a Smartphone? What makes it so Smart?

A smartphone is a device that not only lets you make telephone calls, but also adds in features such as the ability to send and receive e-mail and edit Office documents that you would have found earlier only on a personal digital assistant or a computer.

In the beginning, there were cell phones and personal digital assistants (or PDAs). Cell phones were used for making calls and not much else.. while PDAs, like the Palm Pilot, were used as personal, portable organizers. A PDA could store your contact info and a to-do list, and could sync with your computer. Eventually, PDAs gained wireless connectivity and were able to send and receive e-mail. Cell phones, meanwhile, gained messaging capabilities, too. PDAs then added cellular phone features, while cell phones added more PDA-like (and even computer-like) features. The result was the Smartphone.

Worldwide market share by Smartphone sales Source: Canalys report on Smartphone analysis

Worldwide Smartphone penetration Source: Canalys report on Smartphone analysis, Quarterly shipment data

In general, a smartphone is based on an operating system that allows it to run applications. Apple's iPhone runs the iOS, and BlackBerry smartphones run the BlackBerry OS. Other devices run Google's Android OSHP's webOS, and Microsoft's Windows Phone.

2010 Q4 Worldwide Smartphone sales Market Share by OS Vendor

While almost all cell phones include some sort of software a smartphone will have the ability to do more. It may allow you to create and edit Microsoft Office documents or at least view the files. It may allow you to download apps, such as personal and business finance managers or it may allow you to edit photos, get driving directions via GPS, and create a playlist of digital tunes.

From the hardware vendor perspective, Nokia held the lead position worldwide with 33.1% market share followed by RIM and Apple devices, each with about 16% market share. Samsung and HTC are the other two players in top five. Samsung and HTC each hold around 8% of the market share and are fast growing, thanks to the popularity and adoption of the Android OS.

App Developer preference by Smartphone OS (Power, Beckert, & Flis, 2011)

Most of the Smartphones can access the Web at higher speeds, thanks to the growth of 4G and 3G data networks, as well as the addition of Wi-Fi support to many handsets. A smartphone includes a QWERTY keyboard. A smartphone can sync with your personal and, most likely, your professional e-mail account. Some Smartphones can support multiple e-mail accounts. These are just some of the features that make a Smartphone Smart. The technology surrounding Smartphones and cell phones is constantly changing, though. What constitutes a Smartphone today may change by next week, next month, or next year. Stay tuned!
